Rob and Catey met two guest reviewers, Tyler and Alex, for dinner at Hinode on Sunday, August 28th. We arrived at the restaurant at 6 pm and chose to sit in the dining room rather than out on the patio. Hinode has 14 outdoor tables on a patio area overlooking Carroll Creek. The outdoor area was filled with patrons enjoying dinner, leaving the inside of the restaurant nearly empty. The dining room décor is understated and features neutral colors, dark wood floors, metal wall sculptures, and fabric wall hangings. Red accents bring contrast to the otherwise mellow color scheme. We were seated in one of the comfortable round booths by our polite and soft-spoken server. We had to wait quite a while for him to return to take our orders.
Hinode’s menu features a variety of sushi selections. Diners can select sushi platters (16.99 – 21.99) or order from the a la carte menu (2.00 – 18.95). Entrees such as filet mignon, Chilean sea bass, teriyaki, and fried rice range in price from 12.99 – 26.99. Bento boxes are also available (16.99 – 19.99). Rob chose the non-raw fish sushi platter (13.99). Catey ordered the tempura with shrimp and vegetables (15.99). Alex selected the fried rice with beef (15.99) and Tyler ordered the beef teriyaki bento box (17.99). Tyler’s bento box included miso soup, shrimp and vegetable tempura, vegetable gyoza, California roll, and rice along with the teriyaki beef. Three of our meals arrived at the same time. Rob had to wait a considerable amount of time before his sushi arrived. While the server was extremely polite, he did not return to check on our satisfaction with the meal or to offer refills on our drinks.
The food was beautifully presented, fresh, and delicious. The restaurant is very quiet and we were able to enjoy our dinner conversation around the table. Overall, our experience was enjoyable and we enjoyed sampling a variety of foods from the menu. Most of us are not experienced with Japanese cuisine and enjoyed trying something new. We were disappointed in the lack of attention from the servers and will likely look for another Japanese restaurant for our next sushi adventure.
